Day 5, Sept 2nd 2023

Left Koln (Cologne) and made it to Koblenz

When I arrived to Koln, it was pouring outside. My Hotel, the Ibis Koln ( do not recommend this Ibis) was in the main town square across from St. Peters Gothic church. Crazy running with 15 other people with bikes in the rain.
I skipped breakfast at my hotel in the morning and got on a train in the rain to Koblenz. Once I arrived I had a short ride about 3 miles to a restaurant hotel on the Mosel called Weinhaus Grebel. There was no one there so I walked to the back and rang a bell. A grumpy woman came and I asked her about my room above the restaurant. After much back and forth I was shown to a really small room. She refused to let me bring my bike up and they did not have a secure place for my bike. She eventually gave me a large lock for my bike and I left it outside.

I did walk to the grocery and bought enough food for lunch, dinner and a quick breakfast. I would not recommend Weinhaus Grebel to anyone

I decided not to continue on the Rhine from Cologne to Koblenz as it is like riding through an industrial park for miles. The Mosel is so beautiful and less industrial so Barb and I replanned the trip down the Mosel.

Barb was able to book me a one night stay at Haus Lipmann in Beilstein on the Mosel. They always make you feel special and Tolen and Anja have become hosts that we frequent on our trips. Not to mention they make the best food in Germany.
